or communication. Transactions are between Offerer and Recipient
and will not be mediated or arbitrated by group moderators.

**No SPAM, POLITICS, OFF-TOPIC, TRADES, BARTERING, SELLING, ETC.

**Please limit what you post to TANGIBLE ITEMS that would otherwise
be thrown out and end up in the landfill. If it is trash, then
trash it! If it is still useable, then offer it here.

**Subject lines: Keyword first: OFFER, WANTED, TAKEN, RECEIVED.
Including a pickup location in OFFERs is required. General area please.
GO GREEN -- for tips, eco/environment events, local interest news, etc. Check with moderator before posting please.

**Once a week (7 days) limit to repeating same item in a WANTED message.

**Reply to Message Sender only, not to whole group

**Honor your agreement with the other person in the exchange.
Recipients, show up on time with the proper equipment for
transporting the item. Givers, meet your recipient on
time and have the item ready for pickup. Transactions are
between Offerer and Recipient and will not be mediated or
arbitrated by group administrators, moderators, or
representatives.

**Choose your RECIPIENT any way you want to, then
notify that one person and keep a "waiting" list of other
responders.

**Don't include your exact STREET ADDRESS
in a message to the full list -- keep safety issues in mind.

**PETS -- you can offer and request pets for adoption
here, but can't try to find a potential mate for breeding
purposes. Please don't offer or request live animals intended
as food for humans or other animals. Read adoption information in
our files.

**New Members are MODERATED to keep spam off list.

**UNSUBSCRIBE: How-to Information is at the end of every email
you receive from the list and at the bottom of the front page.

Would have to agree on both those shows, plus, if you will, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.  Historically, there really was a lady doctor in Colorado in that era.  Whether the real Michaela learned anything from the Indians (and I think she did), and whether or not she experimented with a prototype tracheal tube, is beside the point:  the series had quite a few gems of wisdom and tips for survival.

The Waltons was one of my favorite shows growing up.  I use to think it was
because John Boy was a writer and I always wanted to be a writer.  I also loved
the fact that they had so many children and I wanted a bunch of children.  But
now looking back I think it was because they struggled through rough times, but
did it TOGETHER.  Their lives were slower paced and focused on activities that
contributed to survival first and foremost. 

My second favorite program was Little House on the Prairie for all the same
reasons (except wanting a house full of kids. lol).  They also had to struggle
to supply their basic needs, but found joy in such simply experiences that their
lives were happy.

I no longer watch much tv but I will admit that when I sit down to unwind and
turn it on now, I often click through channels looking for SOMETHING worth
watching and often will still stop on these two shows and revisit.  My dh would
probably say it is the sentimentality of the shows that grabs my soft heart, but
I would argue that it is the simplicity and earthiness that draws me back to
their era.

Subject: [Homesteadingfamily] ~A question on things that changed your life~

   

Was watching an old episode of The Waltons where John Boy works and buys his Mom
their first wringer washer and it reminded me of how much I love using a wringer
washer and how we tend to be more careful with our clothes, like wearing an
apron when working in the kitchen, cleaning or even in the vegetable garden. And
then at the end of the show Earl Hammer did the voice over and noted that even
during hard times when they thought they might be poor that in time they
realized what great memories they had created and just how rich they really
were, per the Great Depression and WW2.

My parents spoke the same way of those times, and in looking back I see where
the BEST memories seem to be when we have had to work harder for something.

So I am curious what movies or tv shows have changed your life for the better,
be it making you want to learn how to do something old fashioned that has proven
to be something you now do, or changed how you view life and the path you are
on.
