When you are washing your great grandmothers quilt it does not matter it is is poorly or well made it is not replaceable. I have had people show manège remains of a quilt when well meaning family member throws the quilt in the washer for a quick cleaning. Many older quilts were made from recycled material from old clothing. The damages quilts I have Sean the seams and quilting and usually the backing are in good shape but the fabric on the top breaks apart. O have new quilts that I do wash in the washer but never a quilt that was made by a family member it is too valuable to take a chance with.
