[Homesteadingfamily] Here is a chart for the proper usage of essential oils. Essential oils are typic

a re-post from my group with permission, but important to know about essential oils:

Here is a chart for the proper usage of essential oils. Essential oils are
typically used for cleasing and healing arts...I have just now begun to collect
various oils for home use. I also purchased a book called "The Complete Book of
Essential Oils and Aromatherapy", by Valerie Ann Worwood, to learn how to use
each oil. For my family, I have a small bathroom cabinet in which I am
collecting the various oils..some are for fragrance only, others are for healing
and cleansing. We have started using the fragrance oils for house deodorizers,
instead of using things like Glade or Wizard air freshners, which have lots of
unwanted chemicals in them. Even some candles have lead in the wicks, which when
burned, will put that lead into the air in your home!

We purchase our oils from FRONTIER natural products co-op..but there are many
companies who sell them, Just verify the purity of the oils before purchase and
make sure they are not full of the cheaper "filler oils".

Cautions for Essential Oils
Do not use undiluted oils on the skin, dilute with vegetable oil. There are a
very few exceptions to this rule, for example non-irritating oils like Lavender
or Tea Tree oils undiluted on burns, insect bites, pimples and other minor skin
eruptions so long as you do not have sensitive skin.

Skin test essential oil for sensitivity. Many people who are sensitive or
allergic to say synthetic fragrances will not be sensitive to natural oils. Do a
patch test with a 2% dilution (with a pure vegetable oil) in the crook of the
arm, 12 hours will be ample time to check for a reaction. If redness or
irritation occur try a weaker dilution (1%) or try an alternative oil.

Keep oils away from eyes and mucous membranes.
If redness, burning, itching or irritation occur, stop using oil immediately
