[Homesteadingfamily] Re: PREP HARD, PREP NOW

I certainly agree with you. I pray that it will hold off for awhile (like maybe a long long while :)) but I am preparing for everything to crash any day now the best that I can. We are extremely tight here (We have 6 kids in school with 2 of them handicapped and 4 adults of which 3 of us work and 1 cares for the handicapped ones after school)It is a balancing act to survive these days.

I buy and put away what I can as I can. We have a garden. Any I talk to the kids all the time about preparing, not wasting anything.

I tell them that the next time the lights go out they may not come back on. they have been browning out a lot here in North Central Fl and today they were off for over 1 hour. The weather is fine so what is going on?

Prices are going through the roof...soon I will not be able to pay for the gas to get to work to buy anything. I am surrounded by people going through the same thing. I work at the local jail and expect to see many more arrests as people are reacting to the new reality. My biggest worry is making when I can not longer make mortgage payments. I know I should have this paid off long ago but something always happens (is seems like mostly hospital bills and car repairs after home expenses) to take away what money we have. We live very simply.

Most people I know believe that things are about to crash but do not know what to do. I advise EVERYONE to prepare. Look at what happened after Katrina or Andrew. Few people disagree but few are really preparing. I think I have one who is starting to read but is still waiting (for what I ask???!!)

We have some food put away but not enough for 3 months (yet). Medical supplies and clothing. Some water outside (4 33galllon olive barrels filled as well as 6 gallon containers inside. I need more as this will not last long...we have some livestock.

Right now I am working on gathering together warm winter clothes (down) as I expect the winter to be a repeat of last winter but with the added bonus of uncertainty of power and finances to pay for it. I would like to heat with wood but live in a mobile home and cannot afford it yet. (Guess what my kids are getting for Christmas this year?) Surviving is more important than the latest game or fashion in my opinion.

Just some thoughts to share with you all. I usually just lurk and read what you are all sharing. I learn a lot from all of you. You are so right Deb...things really are going downhill fast and we could wake up any morning with a new world out there.

Please keep warm and keep safe, all of you and yours.

Nancy
