>> I let mine sit over flame and NEVER wash them! <<

Jeanne, what do you do if something sticks to the pan?
I have a scraper. If too bad, chore boy (copper).
I just recently
bought a small cast iron pan at a 2nd hand store, and while I love cooking
in it, there a couple of spots where food always seem to stick. Some people
say NEVER to use soap on cast iron, others say you have to in order to
remove oils that may have become rancid.
I usually scrape the pan with a wooden or plastic spoon, then rinse under
hot water, dry, and oil it again.
The reason why you don't wash it is because my ex-MIL scrubbed ALL the black
off!
