Re: [Homesteadingfamily] Another couple reasons to hunt deer!

Teresa,

I do enjoy hearing things from your perspective and although we differ on some of our views, I think overall we agree that wildlife is important for the environment as well as food. I just happen to also believe in natural predation as a valid need to the environment and not everyone agrees with this. Which is ok in my opinion. Our world would be a lot less interesting without people of many, diverse attitudes, plus I enjoy learning from you.

So we'll just respectively disagree sometimes. :)

In this you are mistaken. At least for last winter. There was plenty of
food for all the deer, as usual. The problem was the 2' of snow on the
ground. It doesn't matter how much food is on the ground, if the snow is
too deep to get to it!

>>>Also natural predators go for the weak and sickly animals first.

Which does include the young animals... the baby turkeys and baby deer. If
they are eaten as babies by the predators, then they don't grow up to be
adult turkeys and deer for people to eat. Here in the middle of West
Virginia, the wild animals provide a significant source of food for our
families (mine as well as many of my friends & neighbors).

So, my perspective is probably different than most people looking at it from
the outside.

Blessings,
