Reporters Without Borders(RSF) condemns a violent raid by Turkish police on the offices of a Turkish weekly and blog in which five people were held. The raid took place on the offices of Yuruyus. It has been strongly criticized by the Contemporary Lawyers Association(CHD).
Emulating the disgusting paradigm of infamous Graecokleptocrats, who persecute and jail dissident bloggers, the government of Turkey terrorizes dissident bloggers. Blogging in Turkey and Greece is considered an extreme-risk avocation. Freakish kleptocrats accuse dissident bloggers of treason, confiscate their computers, and lock them is jail! Freak galore! These prisoners of conscience follow the long tradition of Socrates, who was killed by the Athenian democracy.
Premier George Papandreou of Greece crossed the Rubicon on October 18, 2010, when his deranged minister destroyed a distinguished professor and dissident blogger. That's why the Global Tax Revolt declared October 18 as the International Day Against Cybercop Brutality. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/globaltaxrevolt
Dozens of police officers, backed up a helicopter, used a sledgehammer to smash down the walls of the editorial offices of Yuruyus. Its offices were badly damaged and 3,000 books and publications were seized from the magazine's archives. Halit Gudenoglu, the magazine's editor, and three editorial staff and bloggers, Kaan Unsal, Cihan Gun, and Musa Kurt, and a guest of the magazine Naciye Barbaros, were arrested. After four days in detention they were transferred to the Sican prison in Ankara. The Istanbul appeal court turned down their appeal for release.
RSF is shocked by the brutality of the operation and protests against the authorities who, once again, take advantage of antiterrorist rhetoric to lock up media professionals and bloggers. CHD points out that the activist being sought has no effective or practical ties with the magazine and his home could have been identified by the use of the legal computer system. But the Ankara court and the police regard Yuruyus as the mouthpiece of the DHKP.
The CHD believes that the raid is part of the continuing pressure to which the magazine has been subject for more than three years. On 7 October 2007, the editor of Yuruyus, Ferhat Gerçek, was seriously wounded by gunshots from a police officer which left him seriously handicapped. Toyland Tanya, president of the CHD in Istanbul, said the operation violated Article 26 of the Turkish constitution and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, of which Turkey is a signatory.
Global Tax Revolt points out the persecution of dissident bloggers is unquestionably a serious attack on freedom of speech, and contrary to Article 2 of Lisbon Treaty, Article 10 of the European Convention of Human Rights, and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The Greek government cannot bully the blogosphere without repercussions and blowbacks. The international civil society got a shock and awe from the brutality of the infamous Greek government on October 18, 2010.
