Joseph,
Thank you for your concerns. Part of the delay if you will in creating a live google map interface is quality control and the concern of collecting/harassment of reptiles and amphibians (Especially state-listed species). We are investigating ways to provide users with useful information/feedback, while not creating a black box of data. Conservation is our primary goal. Currently, the publically available information is not location specific enough to be useful to less than ethical parties. The data is currently being used to support/encourage conservation opportunities through state agencies. When we do launch the interface it will be peer reviewed with the concerns of quality control and collection/harassment in mind.
Regards,
Dave

I would like to believe that this information is being used for the benefit of the species, however, I am afraid that this information can be used, and may already be being used, for the purpose of illegal collecting. Unfortunately, I have seen names I recognize as those that may not always operate within the law; not necessarily collecting, but doing things that may not be to the benefit of the animals we are concerned about.
