I heard the sweet angel-voices of American toads last night too in
Greenfield. They're my favorites so I didn't get any sleep at all,
holding my breath trying to listen. It does seem early, but as another
person mentioned on this list we had A. toads calling even earlier in
2010. Climate change in action.

I heard some American Toads calling last week in a pool near Taunton,
and saw some breeding activity. Here's a picture of some toad amplexus
and what I think is a fleeing fairy shrimp:

I know I'm from farther up north, but isn't it a bit early for these
guys to be out down here? I'm not ready for it to be toad season yet!
