[vernalpool] American Toads

 

I heard some American Toads calling last week in a pool near Taunton, and saw some breeding activity. Here's a picture of some toad amplexus and what I think is a fleeing fairy shrimp: http://www.flickr.com/photos/40723658@N05/5634592873/in/photostream

I know I'm from farther up north, but isn't it a bit early for these guys to be out down here? I'm not ready for it to be toad season yet!
