We bought our property last year W TN in Nov. So far we havce about 4 chord of wood cut and stacked. Looking to get another 5 chord stacked. Bout hand cross cut and two man hand saws, and having them serviced now.
We tilled a 40' x 100' section for our garden area, and will be having the neighbor disk and till a 1/2acre section of new ground within the next month for next years crop. I have to check with the county AG extension office for size limits for hobby farms here.
I have about 2 doz chickens, and a half dozen Rabbits already.
Trying to figure out a way to keep the grass down if there is no accessibility to gas. Maybe a flintstone pushmower. LOL
We have canned already this year 25 jars of assorted pickles and relish. 14 Jars of new and diced red potatoes, Beats from the garden and will be doing corn if the heat doesn't kill it. We have put aside about 1yr worth of food for each of us (6 total). Buying more at sams the begining of Aug. More Flour, Salt, and sugar. Will buy more ready pancake mix, rice and beans too. We will be canning anything I can pick up from the flea market here in town for a great deal within the next two months.
I will not go into my personal defense items here. I am working on clearing a 100yrd perimiter around the house area. I am leaving 15yrds of thick growth between the road and my open area. Making wood piles out away that will not provide cover for intruders. Low and along the line of site from the house. Figuring out where I can place man traps at a later time if need be. We have two dogs here, the neighbor has 2 jacks for protecting his herd, that make a bunch of noise when predators come around. We have plentiful Deer and turkey here. I just bought a compound bow for bow hunting last week and am working on learning it now.
I believe we are in good shape here. I have a 35' Camper trailer that I am looking to have someone move into to help around the prop in exchange for free room/board. (Anyone interested?) we are in W TN about 100 mi from major cities and 35 mi away from a minor city and 10 mi outside of town (Small).
