Lye is a caustic base and will eat through almost anything given the chance
unless handled properly~
I make and use lye soap on a REGULAR basis and as long as the lye and oils
have saponified properly, it wont cause damage.
The detergents that you are using sound like they are working the best,
make a heavy spray with them~ They can be harsh, but if you need the grease
taken care of? I used to wash an old boyfriends clothes in dawn~ He was a
mechanic, and it cleaned his stuff right up!
