Howdy,
Found a place we love..unfortunately the home itself didn't pass inspection (needs too much work). However, the land is gorgeous and we're considering putting an offer in at a low-ball price to get the place then build a new home on it.
We're looking for the basics 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths and a basement. If anyone has build their own home / cabin and can share their plans and/or stories we'd be grateful. I'm beginning to investigate EVERYTHING and really thinking outside the box.
We live in the Midwest and I've seen everything from the pre-fabbed modular homes which come in sections to folks who are using old shipping / storage containers, to those creating and living in "tiny homes". We're hoping for about 1100 - 1200 square foot ultimately...but if we get a basement we could probably even go down to 800 - 900. (We have family which regular visits long-term and need a bit more room so everyone isn't "under foot".)
We really want something "rustic" and easy - easy to build, care for, etc. We are not looking for a McMansion with all the latest gadgets as we're easy-going, self-reliant types with no need for all the shiny stuff the latest home-building craze brings.
Looking forward to any information, stories folks can share.
Thank you,
Sam
