If you are into natural dyeing at all this is an absolutely great time of the year. Walnuts and acorns are falling, goldenrod is in bloom, oak trees are shedding some of their bark. Soon the Japanese maples in front yars across the Northeast will soon have their leave turn and be ready for picking. And since many people spend a lot of time gardening, it's a good time to get some iris root in and dried.
And on top of all of that, people are getting firewood ready so it's a good time to try to find some black locust, black walnut, and osage orange.
