Thanks for sharing this. I have a wild imagination and the thought of this mad thing, flapping up and down in front of headlight with a herd of cows charging down on it, just made me laugh until I wanted to pee. Thank for a wonderful morning. May you not experience this adventure again, but keep the story alive for generations to come.

MY FIRST FARMING STORY

The wind was howling and the rain was pouring and we could hear the
bulls fighting off in the dark. I don't know if it was just a
premonition or what exactly but I told my oldest son, my farming
partner, that we should check on the cows on the north pasture. I like
to go with my instincts.

Okay now being that we are the only ones on this road and its a half
mile dead end, the need to change from my nightgown wasn't there...I
simply donned my rubber boots (wellies) and hopped into my truck...while
hubby and son took off afoot.

Sure as God made little green apples...the bulls had broken through the
fence running along the road and were still head to head in and out of
the ditch...with the odd wandering cow, not realizing their freedom but
thinking...hey...when in Rome.

The guys instructed me to drive through the fast emerging herd and get
past them so I could turn around and scare/chase them back. lol well
they were fast following in my direction, and that was opposite of where
we wanted them to go..the idea was to get them going back towards home
and the guys would open the gate and shoooo them back into the pasture.
Well I thought..this is no good cause they aren't afraid of the truck so
I jumped out of the truck, lights still ablazing and stood onfront
flapping my arms and nightgown in the pelting rain and truck lights.

If I never live another day, I'll never forget the look on one cow's
face. Miss Grouch and leader at the time, had the look as if she had
seen the ghost from hell and it was gonna get her lol. She swivelled and
turned on a dime and led the charge back in the opposite direction with
the other cows looking in bewilderment but hey...follow the leader. All
the while the guys are hollering, slow them down we're not yet ready
lol...with me hollering back...get ready cause they are coming at a good
clip.

I was laughing so hard as the bulls...still head to head went back
through the open gate followed by the cows, and I thought, my goodness,
if someone kidnapped me they would sure return me once under the first
street lamp lol.
