A bicycle is a perfect place to start. Check EBAY-vintage tools and you will find several interesting thing.
The other post was spot on when they suggested Lehman's. Go to a used book store and find a reproduction copy of a Sears catalog from around 1900 to check out what was being used. Then hit the second hand and junk store, and yard sales.
