For the time being, I would think twice about anything in WV, PA, OH, NY,
MD and even NC...it is all over the Marcellus Shale formation, and gas
drilling is taking over and there are many people losing their ground water to
contamination by toxic chemicals, as well as losing their country way of
life. PA is probably having the most problems but it's headed our way fast
(WV). To find out more about it, look up Dimmock PA, Wetzel County WV, and
add the word "fracking" in with those words. Many people are fighting for
tougher regulations to protect property owners, but unfortunately most
politicians in these states are paid off by the oil and gas companies, let alone
coal and mountain top removal operations (which are also contaminating
drinking water.) At least check into these things before you buy property,
and look into split estates...in many places you can own the surface of
property, but not own the minerals underneath, and basically the gas companies
have the right to get to their "minerals" any way they see fit, even if that
means setting up a 2 acre drilling rig right next to your house!!!

We live in Hancock County Ky. Property taxes are low here yet there is a
lot of industry in the county. It's actually a mostly rural county. Where we
live sounds like what you would like but we have a home on our ten acres
along a creek.
