sleazy job of showing fairy shrimp swimming in a small aquarium by hitching
my digital camera up to my LCD projector using the video out cable that's
packaged with it (it, by the way, was a point-n-shoot panasonic lumix
TS-1), turning it (the camera) on and letting it just stream its live view
of the tank through the projector. It was really nothing to be proud of,
but got a lot of oohs and ahhs from my audience, most of whom had never
seen fairy shrimp.
Run of the mill digital cameras are a good way to handle this task these
days. Kind of beats dropping coin on microscopes and specialized imaging
equipment if you're just doing educational presentations and such.
Different story if you're collecting high quality video and stills for
publication and the like.
