I have over 100 acres, but I still try to conserve space & work as I can. I love to plant in raised beds, even if they aren't actually raised. I guess I should call it more "intensive planting." I plant stuff really close together in 4' wide areas, and never step in that space, but walk between each 4' wide bed.
I like to plant tomatoes & peppers together. I mulch heavily with hay (because it is free and straw costs money <G>).
I plant 3 rows of beans in a bed.
I plant 3 rows of corn or popcorn in a bed, usually in the bed that I planted beans in the previous year.
Most extra food is canned, but some is dried (popcorn & pinto beans, especially).
New this year ... I want to try covering my broccoli the same evening that I plant it, to eliminate (or at least minimize greatly) bugs. Also, new this year, I want to plant stuff in straw in my greenhouse. I have been putting water on a bale of straw to rot it to plant in ... anyone know how long it takes to actually rot any?!!!
Can't wait to get my hands in the dirt!!!
Blessings,
