Global Tax Revolt (GTR), http://groups.yahoo.com/group/globaltaxrevolt, points out Germany's Pirate Party, which is devoted to Internet freedom and abolition of VAT, is becoming a respectable political force. The party was founded on 10 September 2006. The party leader has been Sebastian Nerz since 14 May 2011. Previous leaders were Dirk Hillbrecht, Christof Leng, and Jens Seipenbusch.
A GTR poll shows the Pirate Party gets 15% of the populat vote, Christian Democrats get 35%, Social Democrats 20%, the Green Party 10%, and the Free Democratic Party 10%. GTR argues the fight against ACTA greatly helps the Pirate Party.
EFF muses that if there's one thing that encapsulates what's wrong with the way government functions today, ACTA is it. You wouldn't know it from the name, but the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement is a plurilateral agreement designed to broaden and extend existing intellectual property enforcement laws to the Internet. While it was only negotiated between a few countries, it has global consequences. First because it will create new rules for the Internet, and second, because its standards will be applied to other countries through the U.S.'s annual Special 301 process.
A sensitive issue cannot be fully explained in a post, but only in a speech, in that magic eyeball to eyeball contact, baring my soul, and declaring truths that cause shock and awe. That's why I look forward to the invitation of your organization to speak at your conference. Basil Venitis, venitis@gmail.com
Negotiated in secret, ACTA bypassed checks and balances of existing international intellectual property norm-setting bodies, without any meaningful input from national parliaments, policymakers, or their citizens. Worse still, the agreement creates a new global institution, an ACTA Committee to oversee its implementation and interpretation that will be made up of unelected members with no legal obligation to be transparent in their proceedings. Both in substance and in process, ACTA embodies an outdated top-down, arbitrary approach to government that is out of step with modern notions of participatory democracy.
Philippe Aigrain of La Quadrature du Net points out ACTA was initiated and negotiated outside of democratic forums. Its vague wording, when interpreted in light of other ongoing initiatives, leaves no doubt that ACTA is meant to turn Internet intermediaries into a private copyright police. Even worse, it will install a terrible irreversibility in our broken copyright regime and prevent its needed reform.
Smart words are more effective than smart bombs! Mighty words of a charismatic keynote speaker can transform your people to a new dimension of organizational climate, efficiency, self-actualization, enthusiasm, belonging, and motivation. I would like very much to speak at your conference in order to explain critical points much further. Basil Venitis, venitis@gmail.com
Jeremie Zimmermann of La Quadrature du Net asserts that members of the European Parliament must resist the EU Commission's strategy to buy time and to turn the debate into a mere legal discussion, and must keep on working towards the rejection of ACTA, which aims to impose a global trend in policy-making that is toxic for a free Internet and for freedoms. The European Parliament is the only safeguard left, and it must act and take a clear and strong position, or it will let the Commission have its way towards imposing unacceptable repression.
Stupidities, such as SOPA, PIPA, CISPA, and ACTA, encourage freakish governments, such as the brutal government of Greece. On October 18, 2010, the Greek government stole my computer and my life at gunpoint. Mr. Papademos, bring my computer back! Enough is enough! Needless to say, I also demand my life back. Greece, the bully of blogosphere, has crossed the Rubicon against civility, terrorizing and robbing dissident bloggers. http://venitism.blogspot.com
Giving SOPA, PIPA, CISPA, and ACTA to blogbusters is giving gin to alcoholics! Blogbusters galore! Freak! Freak! Freak! The freakish government of Greece, the most corrupt country in Occident, steals computers! Robbing dissident bloggers and locking them in jail is a freakish behavior that does not belong to the European Union, not even to this galaxy! No wonder some vain Greeks boast they come from Andromeda galaxy!
The Pirate Party declares all citizens should avoid and evade sales tax and VAT all the way! If you live in USA, you should refuse paying sales tax, and if you live in Fourth Reich, you should refuse paying VAT. If a shop owner does not respect your refusal, go to the next shop. In this depression, you can find myriad shops to accommodate your refusal, pure and simple! Remember, your government is your worst enemy!
When VATs started out in Europe in the 1960s, they were small, usually less than 5%. Today, the average VAT rate in Europe is 20%. If your country wants to join the European Union, you have to have a minimum VAT rate of 15% so that people won't take retail shopping vacations in your cities. Norway, Denmark, and Sweden win the dubious award of having the world's highest VAT rate at 25%. This floor and ceiling of VAT prices is a clear violation of antitrust laws, price fixing, pure and simple!
