Hi thank you for observations about missing wood frog tadpoles I posted
earlier. It was the same scenario at our pool in Sudbury. There are tons of
green frog tadpoles that overwintered and on course to metamorphose into
adults this year. I thought only spadefoot tadpoles were able to consume
protein with the other 9 being mostly herbivores until maturity. I wonder if
the volume of green frog tadpoles could has just created massive disturbance
through movement in on and around the wood frog eggs. Our pool never dried
and is at its lowest level this time of year and there is also fairy shrimp
which I did not expect.
Thanks
Stephen
