The Falkland Islands will hold a referendum on its political status.
David Cameron says UK will support the result of the vote. I declare the self-determination of peoples to pursue any state of their choice. As we saw after the Cold War, numerous new states were born out of the ruins of the Soviet Union as the various republics decided that smaller states were preferable to an enormous and oppressive federation. Greece has proven it cannot function as a single state, but only as a confederation of city-states, such as the cities of ancient Greece. Each city must be a different state with its own political system. Athens might adopt democracy, Rhodes monarchy, Salonica pure capitalism, Piraeus anarchy, and Patras socialism. Greece now is not a democracy, but a dysfunctional kleptocracy.

The referendum will be organized by the Falkland Islands government and will take place in the first half of next year. Cameron declares it's absolutely right that the islanders set out how they intended to make their voices heard once more, and Britain will be resolute in supporting their choice. Next year's referendum will determine beyond doubt the views of the people of the Falklands. Britain will respect and defend their choice. UK looks to all UN members to live up to their responsibilities under the UN charter and accept the islanders' decision about how they want to live.

Fuehrer Merkollande does not understand that downsizing a country makes a lot of sense. Small is beautiful and efficient. The best State is the city-state. A city-state is an independent country whose territory consists of a city. The city-states of ancient Greece, such as Athens, Sparta, Thebes, and Corinth, have shown that the smaller the state, the better it is. Abkhazia and South Ossetia won independence from Georgia. Now, Catalonia wants independence from Spain; California, Texas, and New York City want independence from USA; Europeans want independence from Fourth Reich (EU); England, Scotland, and Wales want independence from UK.

Foreign Secretary William Hague hopes very much that Argentina, and indeed the whole of the international community, joins the UK in listening carefully to what Falklanders have to say. With the exception of the 1982 occupation by Argentina - which sparked the Falklands War - they have been under British control since 1833.

The twenty-first century will witness an epic struggle between the forces of global governance and constitutional democracy. Transnationalists in the United Nations, in Fourth Reich, and USA, are seeking to establish a global rule of law. The more sophisticated transnationalists realize that their goal could be achieved only through West's voluntary submission to global legal authority, presented to the Westerners in Orwellian fashion as leadership and engagement.

This troubling and fast-rising movement aims to subordinate sovereignty. The global governance movement does not seek legitimacy in democracy, but rather in its own partisan interpretation of human rights. Constitutions, globalists argue, must conform to evolving norms of international law.

The global governance project may be utopian, but the efforts to implement it constitute a very real threat to West. As this movement spreads its influence over mainstream elite opinion, democratic decision making is likely to be increasingly curtailed, as it is today in the European Union. Whichever side prevails in the long run, the conflict between global governance and democratic sovereignty will be at the heart of world politics as far into the future as the eye can see.
