[ASGG] OFFER: concrete pieces for garden border

I have about 20 pieces of concrete that used to be a garden border at my friend's house that I was planning to use as a rustic flower bed border here, but I never got around to it.  Looking at them today I again was filled with the desire to turn them into a garden border but I just know I will never do it!  There are about 20 pieces, mostly 2' or 3' long and about 8" x 6" I think.  I do have a photo if you would like to see what they look like.  I can email or text it to you, but do not call me please: 407-342-1965

If you would like to be considered, please let me know an approx. day/time for pickup. Thank you.  I'm in Winter Springs near 17-92 and 434 or 436.

[vernalpool] Vernal Pool Construction Workshop

Hi Nicole -

Across the Potomac here in Montgomery County, Maryland, w e've been having a problem with pools drying out too early also over the past few years.  We're not sure whether it's because of changing  rain patterns, reduced snow during the winter, increased temps, lower water table because of all the housing development, and/or a combination thereof.  I agree with you, it's very sad.  Nothing worse than going to a pool and it recently dried out....all you see are dead woodfrog tadpoles & spotted salamander larvae being eatten by carrion beetles.  The sight along with the accompanying smell makes one weep.

Wendy.

[kitchencabinetforum] BIG BROTHER BARROSO

Barroso's new light bulbs are a crime against all Europeans. Fluorescent lamps contain highly toxic mercury, and LEDS contain toxic lead and arsenic. Under a perverse legislation, Fourth Reich is forcing its citizens to bring toxic waste into their homes and contaminate the environment. http://venitism.blogspot.com

If a fluorescent lamp is broken, a very small amount of mercury can contaminate the surrounding environment. EPA recommends airing out the location of a fluorescent tube break and using wet paper towels to help pick up the broken glass and fine particles. Any glass and used towels should be disposed of in a sealed plastic bag. Vacuum cleaners can cause the particles to become airborne, and should not be used. But even if the bulbs are not broken, they end up in household garbage, leaving the mercury to ultimately seep into the soil and groundwater.

Barroso dictates heating plates of coffee makers are designed to only stay on for a specific amount of time. Vacuum cleaners are supposed to become more efficient with the additional of moveable suction mouths. Laundry detergent could be reformulated so that it dissolves fats at only 20 degrees Celsius. Big brother Barroso dictates laundry should be cleaned using microwave or vacuum technology. Barroso is telling Europeans how brown their toast and how hot their showers can be.

Big brother Barroso wants to transform the confederation of EU to the federation of USE (United States of Europe), enslaving all Europeans to Brussels and spreading the cancer of socialism. Eurocrats fill their pockets with high salaries and perks. A European Commissioner earns thirty thousand euros per month, and God only knows of his bribes. A resigned European Commissioner earns a retirement allowance of ten thousand euros per month, and much more from pullpeddling.

Socialist Whig Catherine Ashton has appointed many socialist failed MPs to top positions. The socialist mafia of EU always manages to accomodate the unelectable socialist politicians with top positions in EU offices. A socialist MP who cannot be reelected in his home country is supported by the socialist mafia of EU to find a high paying EU position which also generates many bribes and kickbacks.

A Member of the European Parliament gets fifteen thousand euros per month. It is very shocking that a large number of MEPs earn an average additional income of ten thousand euros per month in all sorts of extra jobs, and God only knows of their bribes.

I consider the European Union null and void confederation, because Europeans did not vote for any constitutional treaty! Eurokleptocrats pulled off the biggest powergrab in history by imposing a camouflaged constitution, bypassing all nonos. The Nazi dream for Europe was finally fullfilled - ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Fuehrer - one people, one empire, one leader.

The Lisbon Treaty is Eurokleptocracy's Pyrrhic victory. It created a confederation, Fourth Reich, without a popular foundation. EU lacks legitimacy among Europeans. Eurokleptocrats created a situation where the citizens of slave States live their lives with a resigned feeling that the EU project is not their own. http://venitism.blogspot.com

Fourth Reich is an illegal confederation that has no voted constitution, a flag no one salutes, an anthem no one sings, a Fuehrer no one can name, a parliament of prostitutes, a capital of huge bureaucracy no one controls, a currency that soon will not exist, rules of fiscal behavior that no member has been penalized for ignoring, a commission which is the Eldorado of corruption, brutal cybercops, and kleptocrats galore! Ode to Joy is the anthem of Fourth Reich. It is based on the final movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, and it's used without lyrics.

Fourthreichian fiscal union is the Trojan horse for overall harmonization of economic rules, policies, and laws in Fourth Reich. Any eurozone problem is interpreted as a consequence of the lack of harmonization and leads to another wave of a creeping harmonization. Fuehrer Merkollande frequently declares that coordinating tax policies and labor laws is not just about currency issues but also about political cooperation, which has to be deepened. In other words, more enslavement to Brussels, transforming the confederation to a federation!

Big brother Barroso cannot protect Greeks from Graecokleptocrats. The Greek government is the #1 enemy of the Greek people! Graecokleptocrats do myriad stupid things. The freakish Pasok government of Greece in 2010 was so stupid that it hoodwinked all media that I conspired to trigger a war between Greece and Turkey and blame Mariliza Xenogiannakopoulou, Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, for it! Accusing dissident bloggers of treason, Graecokleptocrats have manufactured a blood libel in cyberspace, which in turn incites hatred and violence. The government of Greece gave my head on plate to Erdogan. Brutal Graecokleptocrats have destroyed my life. My life is stolen. Now I demand my life back!

Galileo muttered the phrase Eppur si muove, And yet it moves, after being forced
to recant in 1633, before the Inquisition, his belief that the Earth moves
around the Sun. Similarly the new inquisition of big brother Barroso forces executives to admit something they did not do, in order to get smaller penalties. Eppur si muove!

Big brother Barroso created an Antitrust Armageddon in Europe between tiptop companies and Fourth Reich(EU). The European antitrust laws have the unfortunate consequence of harming Europeans by chilling innovation and discouraging competition. Eppur si muove! http://venitism.blogspot.com

A company that wins a large market through its own productive efforts deserves
accolades. This is because justice, morally, tells us that we must reward the
good. However, to big brother Barroso, a large market share is taken as evidence of
anti-competitive behavior, which makes the company a target for antitrust
action. This seems to be the motive behind the antitrust suits against Microsoft and Google.

To punish the good because it is good is the most vile inversion of
justice conceivable. Yet this is the essence of antitrust, and this is exactly
what antitrust is doing to Microsoft and Google. Microsoft and Google are being targeted by big brother Barroso because they are good at their business, because they are successful, because they are competent. Nothing could be more unjust than this.

[Homesteadingfamily] Re: Ducks not laying?

Ducks molt just like chickens. Keep the feed up and they should start laying again. Mine never seem to leave as many feathers in one place as the chickens do.

[Homesteadingfamily] Ducks

I don't have ducks, but the heat will really slow down my chickens.
Also, chickens go through a period where they molt and their egg laying drops. I would assume that ducks do the same thing.

We've been seeing them dry out too early for about 3 years (heartbreaking!)
but they had been very productive in the past. One pool even had fairy
shrimp. I'll definitely document the whole process and share the story along
with things we learn along the way -- we'll be looking forward to seeing the
restored pool in action come next March!

[kitchencabinetforum] RYAN PROMISES NOT TO DUCK THE TOUGH ISSUES

Paul Ryan accepted his nomination as Romney's running mate at the Republican convention. Ryan said: Before the math and the momentum overwhelm us all, we are going to solve this nation's economic problems. We will not duck the tough issues - we will lead. We will not spend four years blaming others - we will take responsibility. So here's the question: Without a change in leadership, why would the next four years be any different from the last four years?

Romney's selection of Ryan has energized party libertarians who have doubted Romney. Ryan's budget plan would rein in government spending and shift some Medicare participants into private insurance plans purchased with the help of government subsidies.

Democrats are not able to handle the truth that we're going broke. There are myriad suckers in the electorate. Robin Hood Democrats, promising pseudofree goods provided by the rich, are betting that Americans are too stupid to see through their many scams. Their cynicism is as boundless as their politics of personal destruction. In June 2009, and often since, Obama assured us: "No matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise: If you like your healthcare plan, you will be able to keep your healthcare plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what." Obama has already broken that promise.

In Iowa Obama announced that the federal government will purchase over $150 million in meat and fish to help ranchers survive the drought, and that food is going to be spent by folks over at the Pentagon and other places! http://venitism.blogspot.com

USA is going broke. Nevertheless, Obama says Romney will take away from seniors, women, students, and the middle class. Obama is counting on seniors being too senile, women being too emotional, young people being unexperienced, and the middle-class being too focused on their mortgages to understand his smokescreens and hoodwinks. Romney won't push folks over the cliff, Obama 's head-in-the-sand will.

The burden of federal spending in USA was down to 18.2 percent of gross domestic product when Bill Clinton left office. But this progress didn't last long. Thanks to George Bush's reckless spending policies, the federal budget grew about twice as fast as the economy, jumping by nearly 90 percent in just eight years This pushed federal spending up to about 25 percent of GDP. Obama promised hope and change, but he has kept spending at this high level rather than undoing the mistakes of his predecessor.

Ryan has some very bad votes in his past, including support for TARP, the auto bailout, the no-bureaucrat-left-behind education legislation, and the reckless Medicare prescription drug entitlement. Everyone says to ignore those votes because Ryan knew he was voting the wrong way, but if he's already made some deliberately bad decisions for political reasons, what's to stop him from making more deliberately bad decisions for political reasons?

Mark Hinkle muses that Republican Paul Ryan's plan to pseudoprivatize Medicare is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Hinkle notes that if Congressman Ryan is so worried about the cost of Medicare, maybe he should not have voted for the huge Republican Medicare expansion in 2003. The essential problem with Medicare is that it's a coercive program. All Americans are forced to participate in the Medicare scheme, whether or not they think it's good for them. Paul Ryan's plan does nothing to address that essential problem.

Hinkle wants Medicare terminated, pure and simple! No ifs, ands, and buts! The
Constitution does not give the federal government any authority to provide or
pay for health care, and besides, forcing young people to pay the bills of old
people is just plain wrong. At the very least, people should be allowed to opt
out of Medicare. No one should be forced to pay taxes into a system they dislike
and don't want to use.

I support Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party for President of USA. Johnson has an outstanding record for vetoing legislation as former governor of New Mexico. He vetoed more bills than all other governors in USA combined, stopping the expansion of big government.

Santorum once mused that since Republicans nominated Romney who is just a little different from Obama, then Americans may as well stay with Obama instead of taking a risk. No Santorum, Americans better vote for Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party!

Two major parties in every Western country try to commoditize all voters, transforming them to vegetables in the center field! Rabblerousers gravitate to two dominant parties running for the center, trying to offend as few people as possible. This produces a groupthink where everybody avoids the issues when they're running for office. Most Westerners are disappointed in both major parties. They're hungry for a new approach, a new party, truly committed to substantive ideas, and not just to getting elected and focusing on their particular election cycles. http://venitism.blogspot.com

Lemmings are Arctic rodents of poor eyesight, which can drown en masse. American lemmings vote for Republicans or Decocrats. Europeans behave like lemmings when they masochistically vote for kleptocrats. British lemmings vote for Whigs or Tories. Greek lemmings vote for Pasok or Nea Democratia. Eurolemmings rely on the spinmill of Brussels bromides. Are you a lemming? Are you a victim of taxation and kleptocracy? It's time for soulsearching and vision examination.

Citizens who want the government out of their wallets, their bedrooms, their businesses, and their lives must vote for libertarians. Only libertarians try to minimize government and maximize individual liberty. It's not a shame to lose an election, but it's a shame to compromise your values in order to win an election. Obsession with polls is a sign of weak soul. The two major parties are willing to say anything and promise everything in order to win an election. Of course, after the election most promises are conveniently forgotten. The two major parties need an awakening call. http://venitism.blogspot.com

A wee bit too far from MA, but hope you'll send updates on the modified pool.  How many years have you noticed the pool drying out too soon?  Interesting that the creatures think it smells like a pool, looks like a pool, yet doesn't function like a pool.....

For those in the Northern Virginia area, Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and
Morven Park are partnering to put on a Vernal Pool Construction Workshop in
October. We're limiting the attendance to 30 people and there's a fee of $80
per person to attend.  During the workshop, Mike Hayslett will discuss
vernal pool habitats, and species that use them, and the ins and outs of
restoring or constructing a vernal pool. Heavy work will be done by machine
but there will be some hands on pieces too.

Morven Park (located in Leesburg, VA) is a great spot with a rich complex of
vernal pools. Through the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy amphibian monitoring
program we have monitored the pools for more that 10 years and have
documented Jefferson Salamanders, Spotted, Marbled, and Wood Frogs.  Some of
the pools were created more recently by road ruts when timbering was done.
Our plan is to modify one of these road rut pools as a demonstration project
as it has been used by various species but unsuccessfully due to the pool
drying out too soon.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Nicole Hamilton

Here's the write-up on it:

Vernal Pool Construction Workshop at Morven Park ¯ Saturday and Sunday,
October 27 & 28, (rain date November 17 & 18) Morven Park, a 1,200-acre
historic site just outside Leesburg, is partnering with Loudoun Wildlife
Conservancy in a project to teach people how to restore or construct vernal
pool habitats. Two of the Eastern seaboard's leading experts in vernal pool
habitats will lead the workshop: Mike Hayslett, director of the Virginia
Vernal Pools Program and Marc Seelinger, director of The Swamp School in
Raleigh, N.C. The workshop at Morven Park begins with a classroom session,
followed by a day and a half of outdoor, "hands-on" experience. Participants
will visit educational stations to learn about vernal pool habitats and
amphibians, see the equipment and techniques for constructing a pool, and
support the pool restoration itself by helping shape clay pool base of
sufficient depth and slope to support amphibian life, and reposition plants
and natural material to help the pool flourish. Educational handouts will be
provided. Registration required: A limited number of scholarships are
available for educators, while the fee for all other participants is $80.
Pre-registration is required by going to http://vernalpools.eventbrite.com/.
Educators should apply by calling 703-777-2414, ext. 6617.
