When a slick politician comes along and gives a much more soothing, self-congratulating version of events, it is very tempting to simply believe what we would like to hear. But listening to lies does not make us safer, even though it might make us feel better about ourselves. The truth is that ending these misguided wars and occupations will make us safer, more prosperous and freer.
Most of the rebel fighters in Syria are foreign Islamists who aren't interested in toppling the Assad regime, but to implement Sharia law throughout Syria. International networks are used by terrorist groups to finance terrorist activity worldwide. Terrorists are supported by kleptocrats, rich Muslims, various charities, banks, drug trafficking networks, money-laundering schemes and bribed officials. The involvement of Hezbollah and al Qaeda in the drug trade is well known. It was bin Laden who managed the drug profits for the Taliban and arranged money-laundering operations with Russian mafias, such as Bratva and Brigada. Countries that fund or foster terrorism, include Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Indonesia, Libya, North Korea, and Malaysia. Many international aid organizations inadvertently support terror.
Beres points out sixty per cent of his patients during his two week service in Syria were rebels, and about half of those were foreigners who just want to establish a global sharia caliphate. Beres says: It's really something strange to see. They are directly saying that they aren't interested in Bashar Assad's fall, but are thinking about how to take power afterward and set up an Islamic state with Sharia law to become part of the global caliphate.
The foreign jihadists include Frenchmen who believe they are waging a holy war, inspired by Mohammed Merah, an Islamist militant from the French city of Toulouse. Merah killed seven people in March, in the name of Al-Qaeda.

Beres notes: Some of the patients were French and completely fanatical about the future. They are very cautious people, even to the doctor who treated them. They didn't trust me, but for instance they told me that Mohammed Merah was an example to follow!
Christian minorities of Syria are facing a growing threat and thousands are being forced to flee their homes as they face harassment and discrimination from opposition radical Islamist factions. 12,000 Christians from the western Syrian city of Qusayr were forced to seek refuge after an ultimatum from a local military chief from the armed opposition. All mosques in the city have announced that Christians must leave Qusayr within six days. Attempts to evacuate Christians from Homs have been unsuccessful, as rebels want to keep the civilians inside to use them as bargaining chips and human shields.
Nevertheless, American intelligence operatives continue to step up their contacts with Syrian rebels to help organize their growing military operations against Assad's forces. CIA and the State Department are helping the Free Syrian Army develop logistical routes for moving supplies into Syria and providing training in communications. Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been paying salaries to the Syrian rebels. Turkey, which hosts some units of the Free Syrian Army, ensures material and technical support. As long as USA and its allies continue to blindly support the radical rebels, stability in Syria will remain unattainable.
The Syrian government has consistently maintained that the uprising against Assad is being orchestrated from outside the country and is the work of foreign-backed terrorists. The list of nationalities continues to grow. Jihadist fighters from Britain have joined the fight as well. The inflow of foreign fighters worry all Syrian rebels, who have accused them of being too extreme.
Hillary Clinton vents her frustration saying Russia would pay a price for using its Security Council veto power to help keep dictators in power. Lavrov's unsmiling response is simply to restate Russia's position, underlining that its policy is not shaped around keeping any individual in power and suggesting Moscow is being subjected to blackmail to force it to change its position.
Moscow's stance is shaped by hard-nosed interests and ideology. Russia wants to halt what it sees as an Occidental drive to use the United Nations to topple leaders Occident dislikes. There is no doubt Lavrov supports Moscow's policy on this wholeheartedly. Lavrov has shown he is a political survivor by keeping his job for many years, despite rivalry between him and Kremlin foreign policy adviser Sergei Prikhodko. Lavrov refers to Georgia's president as a fucking lunatic!
Hollande is concerned that French radical Islamists who have traveled to lawless zones return to plot terrorist attacks in France. This was the case for Mohammed Merah, who traveled to Afghanistan and Pakistan before organizing the Toulouse shooting.
We definitely underestimate the ideological motivations for terrorists, what makes people blow themselves up. It's not politics. You have to know your enemy and yourself. Unfortunately with the war on terror we forgot who we are, but also we didn't know our enemy. Look at al-Qaida. They led us into a war longer than World War I and World War II. Not because they are such smart people, but because we did not understand our enemy. Instead, we applied waterboarding and enhanced interrogation techniques. We did exactly what al-Qaida wanted us to do. When you do this, what are you proving to the guy? You're proving that everything he thinks about you is right.
