Re: [Homesteadingfamily] Tennessee or Maine?

One misnomer about Maine is that the winters are unbearable. There are some
winters where places on the coast hardly get snow at all. Places like NY, Ohio,
Minn, Wisconsin, and inthe west have WAYYY worse winters than Maine does. I have
never had a Maine winter that I hated or that I felt was bad or unlivable. You
can always get warmer with clothes, but when its hot, its hot! My sister moved
to Florida from Maine and within 2 years moved right back. She said, "how can
peole live in the south? its awful down there!" I also had my best friend move
to Tenn and within 2 years, she moved right out of there and said the winters in
Tenn are worse than Maine winters because of the humidity. 50 degrees in the
south is like 30 in the north because the humidity cuts through you. I have
personally been more uncomfortable in a Florida winter than a Maine winter. The
dry cold air is much more doable than the humid southern cold. Also, the crime
rate is so low in Maine. The traditional, small town lifestyle is alive and well
where everyone knows their neighbors and you dont have to lock your doors. You
said you wanted to homeschool, but just to mention, New England has the top
schools in the entire country. I like living somewhere where education takes
priority.

No way will I ever live in a southern state ever again. If you want to know
anything more detailed about Maine, email me. I have family in every region of
the state and can give you specific area information. Theres so much to do in
Maine and if you want to take your kids for a real life history lesson, places
like Portsmouth and Boston are a short drive away!

Subject: [Homesteadingfamily] Tennessee or Maine?

Hello,

I wanted to know if anyone lives in Tennessee or Maine. My husband and I are
very interested in both places. The one thing that bothers us the most is the
natural disasters. I was reading that Tennessee can have up to 17 tornados in
one year.

We are from NM and we have virtually no natural disasters here. We really want
somewhere that is a lot greener. We are trying to find land that has trees,
water and some open area for a garden. We also want a homeschool friendly state
since we homeschool our two boys. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you,

Julie
