>>>We don't hunt on our small acreage, but
we do have lots of deer and wild turkeys who visit. I have Jersey cows
and I fear someone shooting one of them instead of a deer since they are
the same coloring.
A valid concern. Even though hunters should positively identify their targets before pulling the trigger, some do not. You might consider keeping the ladies close to home during hunting season. As for wild turkeys, IMO God created no finer meal than a wild turkey! mm-mmm! Keep in mind that the longer the beard, the older (& tougher) the bird. Shoot a Jake with a little tuft of a beard. <G>
My kids love to can deer meat, make jerky from it, and take the neck to the local slaughterhouse to be made into bologna. They also make the tenderloin and back straps into little steak medallions for the grill (or iron skillet ... often for breakfast! LOL).
