I posted yesterday that I would like to get to know members in my area for bartering/sharing purposes.
In today's economic environment, I find myself gravitating towards people who are not necessarily "survivalists" or even hard-core homesteaders, but people like us, who just want to be able to maintain a good life for their families, and possibly help their neighbors, should something happen.
My neighbor is a young guy (about 24 or so). His dad farms the land around us and, eventhough he grew up on a working farm, he knows next to nothing about growing food. However, he can fix anything mechanical and has a desire to learn! So, he comes over whenever he can to learn about growing his own food, and cooking what he grows. He is going to help with the bees and help build the chicken coop this spring, also.
That is what got me to thinking about the barter system! Does anyone have any good ideas for starting a group within a small community for bartering/trading. There is a website for that purpose, but most of the things I saw when checking it out were a little out of the scope of what I had in mind.
I have a large garden and have a summer kitchen for teaching, but not one idea for starting this kind of group!!!
