[Homesteadingfamily] Re: Olive oil and lard

Jeanne, I disagree with using NO animal fats at all...there are amino
acids in those that the human body needs. Now, the source of those fats,
is a whole 'nuther story! If one raises their own livestock, then I'd
use the lard and tallowfor soaps as well as cooking from my hogs and
cattle. Healthy fats are a "must" for health...but the source is most
important..and how the animal was fed and raised. Ever read "Nourishing
Traditions", by Sally Fallon? That book gives the reasons and recipes
for incorporating healthy fats in to the diet and why.I may not agree
with everything in that book but the parts on healthy fats is well worth
the read. And a book by Mary Enig about Eat fat to lose Fat (or Know
Your Fats)..is another one. There are healthy oils and fats out
there...and both animal and plant based fats are necessary for vibrant
health!Animals who have been fed antibiotics and chemicals will not be
healthy fats to eat, for sure. So, raise them yourself so that you KNOW
what they have been fed. IMO~deb
