what about heirlooms and seeds from places that are organic like "southern exposure?"

This is very interesting to me... I am just learning about GM foods etc. As we try to change our diets in my home etc. I have 5 kids and want them to have healthy foods to eat! Is the seed you buy at stores modified in any way???

Yes, you can put money on the fact soy in grocery store is GMO. Because of over 98% of soy in the US being GMO, I would err on the side that even "organic" is too; unless the organic site says "THEY TEST." I believe Baker Creek Seeds (?) and one other. I'll have to pull out my old catalogs and see. I'll see what I can find. Remember they MUST state they TEST. Most heirloom seeds are open-pollinated, as are GMO corn, alfalfa and sugar beets (which is the 2nd growing GMO crop now!)…..see the dilemma? If your field is down wind…..YOU now have contaminated crops.

I wrote a paper in law school about GMO foods. Over 98% of soy in America is GMO. In 1992 (not 1996 as someone posted, by 96 the GMO was almost 45%) then pres-Bush the 2st signed an Executive Order that allowed GMO to enter the food chain w/o any checks and balances:

….the U.S. policy that all GM/GE foods are considered equal to non-GM/GE foods and are in fact deemed safe under a 1992 George H. W. Bush Executive Order.

Under this official policy, all GM/GE foods are not required to undergo any kind of safety testing before entering the market. Below you will find the exact policy of the FDA concerning GM food:
"FDA relies primarily on two sections of the Act to ensure the safety of foods and food ingredients. Generally, whole foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and grains, are not subject to premarket approval. The primary legal tool that FDA has successfully used to ensure the safety of foods is the adulteration provisions of section 402(a)(1). The Act places a legal duty on developers to ensure that the foods they present to consumers are safe and comply with all legal requirements. FDA has authority to remove a food from the market if it poses a risk to public health. Foods derived from new plant varieties developed through genetic engineering will be regulated under this authority as well" [1].

Hence, nearly every modified food in the U.S. is completely untested for safety. This is very noteworthy for two reasons: (a) the U.S. leads the world in GM/GE foods (with up to 80% of its prepared and prepackaged foods being modified); and (b) every other nation besides the U.S. tests all GM/GE food before they are put into the food chain. Several African nations have dubbed GM/GE foods as "lethal" and believes the U.S. is fulfilling a population reduction strategy in Africa.

I am trying to find the article that MEN should avoid soy. It was documented that several men had hormonal changes due to the amount of soy. They were developing female characteristics: Here's article from Men's Health no less!

For Price, a retired U.S. Army intelligence officer who once flew attack helicopters in Vietnam, these changes were more than just physically uncomfortable. "Men aren't supposed to have breasts," he says today in a quiet Texas drawl. "It was like my body was feminizing."

A lean and wiry man, the breast development stood in stark contrast to the rest of his body. But it was not Price's only symptom. His beard growth had slowed, he'd lost hair from his arms, chest, and legs, and he'd stopped waking up with morning erections. "My sexual desire disappeared," he says. Lewi, M.D., chief of endocrinology at the San Antonio Military Medical Center. During that first meeting, neither doctor nor patient had any inkling of just how long and complex this medical mystery would prove to be. Dr. Lewi initially checked for "usual suspect" lifestyle factors known to trigger gynecomastia, from alcoholism to certain herbal ingredients, like tea-tree oils and lavender. With those ruled out, Dr. Lewi was left with a more dreaded suspect: an estrogen-secreting tumor……..
