Sorry for the loss of your chickens. It's one thing I remind my family of all the time and our loses so far have been to hawks and owls, which I have fewer issues with. the ones who survive tend to be the smarter ones.
However, we too had a night invader one evening. We had a 7-8 foot black snake who decided to snack on the new hatching guinea keets. The snake was relocated and we haven't seen him back and the majority of our keets along with all newly hatched chicks are now kept inside until we are ready to have them in the chicken condo (12' x 14 building with siding that matches our house, made of mainly pallets.)
