Here is my own recipe for home made pancake/waffle syrup.
Deb's Pancake/Waffle Syrup yield: approx 28oz3
c firmly packed brown sugar1.5 c hot water1 T maple flavoring1/8 tsp sea
salt1 tsp butter flavor, optional1 tsp pure vanilla, optional
In a saucepan, bring all of the ingredients almost to a boil. You do not
have to boil this...just stir until the "gritty" feel of the sugars on
the bottom of the pan are dissolved. Once they are dissolved, take it
off the heat and use. If put into an old pancake syrup bottle (we use a
28 oz Log Cabin bottle from 10+ years ago!) and refrigerated, it will
thicken as it cools. It will last for 2 months if in the fridge.That's
it!
We quit eating store bought syrups many years ago, because most have
"sodium hexametaphosphate", caramel coloring and HFCS, along with other
ingredients that we chose not to consume, in them. So, I began trying to
figure out a good recipe for us to use...this is it and it is wonderful!
Not better than real maple syrup maybe, but it is from simple
ingredients that one can actually pronounce and read and most of the
ingredients are in the kitchen already!Hope you all enjoy this!~Deb
