[vernalpool] Re: Jeff eggs developing in Sunderland

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the differences between jeff eggs and spottie eggs are: jeff eggs are less numerous, and they also form a less solid and consistent mass - more likely to be pulled apart. I think they still have the double gel layer. Here's a picture I took in Vermont of some jeff eggs:

Things get complicated with the hybrids, because blue-spotted salamanders make much smaller egg clumps. Hybrids produce an intermediate number of eggs. Has this been everyone's experience here?
