My sister is an excellent baker, and I always love receiving a basket of goodies from her... a variety of cookies, mini loaves of banana nut or other breads, etc. She also crochets, so this gift often includes a doily. She has used a variety of containers ... holiday Saran Wrap, or an inexpensive tin from the dollar store, or an antique plate.
I sew, so my gifts have been tote bags, bedside caddies, table runner, cloth napkins, book cover, or other small gift. I also made an embroidered bread cloth for my sister one year, and an embroidered picture for another sister (I finished a project that our grandmother had started).
Once I received a gift of handmade soaps with a cotton hand made knitted washcloth in a small basket, also made by the giver! Wowzer!!!!!
Check out thrift shops for mismatched pieces of china plates for serving homemade goodies. Also, for a china teacup & saucer with a selection of fruity teas and a nice doily and/or linen napkin.
