check out Jonh Seymour's "Living the Self Sufficient Life" it shows how to be self sufficient on 5 acres and is a valuable resource.
Good Luck,

We live in the thumb of Michigans lower peninsula my husband lost his job in October 2011 and it has been a tremendous struggle. We had to leave our home at the time as it was provided by his former employer, and I had to leave 2yr old and 1 month old with a sitter and begin working again. It tears me apart every day as my 2 yr old screams for me as I leave for work. I need advice and help to become self sufficient and provide my family with all they need without the second income from my job. We do have 2 milk cows and I raise dairy calves on my cows. I also have goats, chickens, and rabbits and of course a couple of horses. I have recently gotten a 5 acre property where we will be building our new home as well as barns for the animals. My grandparents are putting in extra produce to help us as well but any advice would be taken with great appreciation. I am trying to make the best use possible of every last inch of land we have use of. Maybe someone
else has a very small space they are using successfully that they would be willi g to share about?
