[vernalpool] New pond - Leyden, MA

 

I've been hearing wood frogs and peepers chorusing since Monday, March 19. A nice full sound and so welcome. I've been wondering why it sounded differently than other years. I figured out yesterday and last night that they are calling from a new spot! Last summer some beaver started a dam and a lodge about 200 feet away from the existing pond. Almost all the calls are from the new pond. This gets me thinking about all sorts of possibilities and in general I just think it's neat.
