I have noticed that many construction and logging projects and the use of woods roads in general results in temporary pools in the spring. If these are close to natural vernal pools, they often attract breeding amphibians in the spring. However, most of these features that I have observed dry out very quickly, resulting in the mortality of great numbers of egg masses and tadpoles while nearby natural pools still hold water. I wonder about the effect of this amphibian populations. Any thoughts?
