In two of the pools I regularly observe, one in RI and one in the Blue Hills Reservation, I have noticed blooms of what I think is Nostoc, which is a globular green algae. Have not seen this before in these particular pools. However, both pools remain very productive for both wood frogs and spotted salamanders.

There seems to be a tremendous surge in filamentous algae everywhere. It's actually remarkable. Not just VPs, but ponds, swiftly running rivers. I've been amazed.
