Happy Earth Day!
I agree with "don't give up" as it is Earth Day and even in the rain a trip outdoors is worthwhile.
Found a dead spotted in the forest debris this morning about 20 feet from my pool. Looks like some pecks and claw marks to the top of its head and some blood had formed in the eye. I have flickers, downy, pileated, and red-bellied also wood and hermit thrush, kingfisher and maybe a few other likely suspects in who killed spotty. Any ideas? Must have been on the move or out feeding last night. Pickerels were also calling this morning. I had a lone wood frog looking around among the numerous green frogs. Looking forward to what else turns up with the rain.

Oh no, Mike, don't give up!
Matt, I guessed we might still see a fair number of animals leaving the
pools, at least, for those that have water this year. Is it your
thinking that most of the spotteds have made their way back to the woods
already, despite little rain?

I'll definitely go out and look, but with low expectations. Down your
neck
f the woods I'd have even lower expectations, but one never knows! Might
ring out the leopard frogs anyway...

I was just wondering if anyone out there still thinks there is hope for
a
salamander migration
this spring. I realize that it is getting late in the season, but the
forecast for the next three
days looks like it might follow through with quite a bit of rain and
warm
temps. Is anyone else
planning on checking things out tomorrow night? Or is it just plain too
late to bother?
